Safety Drives the Decision for Student Parking Permits

Many of the new policies implemented this year are focused on making campus safer for the community.

The student parking passes are bright green, and each pass number corresponds to the specific student registration.

This school year has started with many new changes, and among these is a Parking Permit Policy. With these new changes, many students are wondering: “Why is this being enforced now? And why is it so important that it is followed?”

The new policy states that all students who wish to park their car on campus must obtain a parking permit. This permit must be displayed in the vehicle. To register a vehicle, students had to provide proof of their driver’s license, registration, and car insurance.

Officer David Cracolice, the school’s patrol officer, is here to answer some of these questions. In a recent interview, he shared “VHS administration is taking a proactive approach to help curb issues we have seen in the past.” In the past, the school has dealt with hit-and-run accidents; in addition, some students are driving without a license or insurance. Cracolice explained that “Failure to comply will result in parking privileges being suspended.” This is new for everyone, and staff are still finding more efficient ways of implementation.

It is important that all student drivers follow this policy. The staff and administration at VHS are looking out for the safety of their students, and hoping for an amazing, accident-free school year.

My name is Cecily Caudell and I am a sophomore at Vallivue High School. I decided to join the journalism class because I have always loved writing. I have loved reading and writing since before I can even remember. I would like to learn how to become a better overall writer this year. I like working on many different types of stories but I really like working on stories related to pop culture, especially album and movie reviews. My name is Macy Benedick, and I am a sophomore at Vallivue High School. The reason I joined the journalism class this year was because I enjoy different types of writing. I also wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone by being required to interview people, and with the different styles of writing that I will be doing. The types of stories that I like working on are feature stories because they give a little freedom in writing, but also have a structure of fact. This year, I hope to learn about each type of story and how to write them, and also to improve my writing skills continuously throughout the year.

Ms. Ford, Advisor

My name is Ms. Ford and I restarted the journalism class at Vallivue High in 2019, and it is now a full-year elective for students. I wanted to start the journalism class because I participated in my school newspaper in high school and college. I also worked on a small news program for kids on KTVB as a managing editor. I work collaboratively with Mr. Self and the VSPN program to bring all the latest news from Vallivue High School to the community.
