The VHS Band Program is in the middle of competition season and is looking forward to finishing strong with its last competition this Saturday. On Oct. 7, Vallivue’s band competed at the Southeastern Calvacade Festival of Bands in Kennewick, Washington for their first competition of the season. Vallivue placed tenth overall and placed seventh in their division. They competed in The Treasure Valley Festival of Bands on Oct. 14 at Ridgevue High School and placed third in the 5A large band division.
We spoke with some of the students about the trip to Washington and how they thought they did. Jared Shell, one of the drum majors of the band, shared that the band learned how to compete as a band in a way that helped portray their confidence. Shell also stated that the first competition helped them improve their show and get it critiqued. Drum major Sydney Wade said that they made improvements to the music itself and the visual components of the show.
Band director Mr. Adamson shared that the kids are working hard and he is looking forward to a successful completion of the season.
Vallivue’s band will compete on Saturday, Oct. 21 in the D3 competition at Boise State University at 7 p.m. Boise State’s Blue Thunder Marching Band will end the competition as the showcase at 8 p.m. and awards will be presented at 8:35 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door which allows you to stay all day.
