There are many clubs and sports available for the students at VHS. We have everything from robotics to choir to soccer. The students in these activities are very passionate about what they do, but it often costs money to get supplies, or fund festivals and trips. Each club/sport has different ways that they are currently raising money for these things.
For example, the coach of our varsity soccer team Mr. Adamson has been planning a trip to Spain. And while this trip is still in the works, he knows it will need quite a bit of fundraising to happen. Like last year, the team is selling tickets and raffling off a variety of donated prizes. Another huge part of their fundraising comes from the different sponsors that they get each year.
Similar to soccer, our track team is also running a raffle. They are selling tickets for ten dollars each, and have been donated a new grill by Canyon County Law Enforcement Foundation to raffle off. This along with their yearly Hourathon helps fund the team’s uniforms. Fundraising is also necessary to travel out of state to track meets, which are greatly enjoyed by the team and give our athletes exposure by college recuiters.
Wrestling, on the other hand, has taken a much more hands-on approach. “Rent a Wrestler” is a program that has our Vallivue wrestlers working for their fundraising. This means you can rent a wrestler to do some yard work, and in turn, they earn money toward uniforms and tournaments.
The robotics club is advised by Ms. Jamison. Robotics is extremely fun but costly activity. This year they need to raise money for many things including supplies, team and tournament registrations, and travel. To do this, the robotics students work concessions, have individual sponsors, and are even hosting a tournament and an elementary kids robotics camp.
Many of our orchestra, choir, and theater kids are currently raising money for a Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida. Along with that, they must also fundraise for festivals and other traveling that they may do throughout the year. This year, students are selling popcorn through a website that will deliver it right to their customer’s doors; they are also selling World’s Finest chocolate bars similar to what has been done in past years.
Donations made to clubs and teams at VHS are essential for them to function. The students involved in these activities work very hard and are dedicated to fundraising for an amazing year!
