As the weather becomes colder, there are many winter activities in Caldwell to help people get in the Christmas spirit.
One main attraction during the Christmas season are the Christmas lights at Indian Creek. Nicknamed the “Indian Creek Plaza Winter Wonderland,” this display of over a million lights spans downtown Caldwell, specifically around Indian Creek Plaza. The multitudes of lights include adorable figures such as polar bears and penguins, as well as interactive displays like igloos for children to crawl through. One of the most popular attractions, however, is the fire breathing dragon that sits in the center of the creek, breathing real fire every few minutes.
While walking through the lights, there are various other winter activities for people to participate in, including the horse drawn Christmas light tours, where anyone can pay to ride around the lights in a horse drawn carriage. Reservations can be made at indiancreekplaza.com. Additionally, at Indian Creek, from December 3rd to December 13th, you can donate to those in need with the newly opened “Light the World Giving Machine.” This is a vending machine that allows you to buy an item, such as food, bedding, hygiene items, school supplies, and so much more to donate to various charities. For an event for younger kids, from 6:30 to 8:30 on Fridays starting December 5th, there is a meet and greet with Santa, sponsored by D.L. Evans Bank in the Northeast corner of the Plaza. The singing Christmas tree at Indian Creek Plaza has been renovated this year to sing and light up for five minutes at a time, so be sure to check it out as well!
One of the most popular attractions among the lights of Indian Creek Plaza, however, is the ice skating rink, which is now open. The ice skating rink is often very busy during the holiday season, but is open Sunday through Thursday from 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM. Hours vary on the holidays. Tickets can be purchased online or in person for $14 for general admission or $7 for children 5 years or younger or if you bring your own skates. Because of the busy season, tickets can be bought ahead of time online.
This Saturday, December 7th at 6:00 the Caldwell Night Light Parade will take place. This is an annual tradition, where all of Caldwell and surrounding cities can come watch incredibly decorated floats from many different Caldwell organizations. This year, various businesses, the marching band from Caldwell High School, and even Vallivue High School’s FFA will be participating. This year’s theme for the parade is “Gingerbread Village,” promising fun decorations for all of the floats.
With all of these activities, the people of Caldwell will be sure to have a joyful holiday season.
