Book Club is more than just a club: it is a way to find that spark to start reading again, read for fun and find a place where others have the same passion for books. The goal of the club is to inspire students to read more books and try different kinds of books that they may not have wanted to read before. Reading is more than an English assignment. Book Club is led this year by juniors Kaycee Gifford and Kacy Hicks.
Gifford joined the book club because she started enjoying reading more in eighth grade. She wanted to know what others were reading and their thoughts, along with showing what her opinions were in a book. When asked what she does in a book club, she said that she reads and shares what she reads, but it is also a community. Hicks joined the book club because he felt like “he needed a club to be part of, and he was in the library anyway, so why not join book club?” When asked what he does in book club, he said that the purpose is to inspire people to read more and to show people that reading can be fun.
Book club is still deciding when their regular meeting time will be. For more information on how to join book club, you can email or talk to Mrs. Wilkerson. You can also contact Gifford and listen to the announcements for updates.
