Vallivue High School has many clubs available to its students during both A and B lunches. One of these clubs is the RIC (Rooted In Christ) club, formerly known as FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). The club meets every Thursday during A and B lunch, during which the students involved all have the opportunity to lead and/or be involved in a discussion/lesson involving biblical topics. The club members often meet outside of school for activities such as worship or game nights with the intention of fellowship and growing a community.
The club has undergone many changes in the last two years. In a recent interview with senior Emily Moldenhauer, a student leader of the club, explained the updates. The most obvious, the name change, was suggested when it was brought to light how little to no members of the club were involved in athletic activities, and many were skeptical to even join because they were not athletes. Moldenhauer explained how “As a club, we decided to rebrand a little bit and we all voted on the name Rooted In Christ, or RIC. Our goal of this change was to be more broad so everyone knows that, ‘yes we are a Christian club, but you don’t have to be an athlete, or a musician, honors student, etc. to be a part of this club!’”
Another change that has occurred in the club just this year is the location. Previously, the club meeting has always been held in the library, but as many new people have recently joined, the space became too small. For this reason, the club now meets in the choir room.
To anyone interested in joining the club, Moldenhauer leaves the message that “It is such a blessing to be a part of a community like that! RIC is also not just a club for Christians, if you are interested in seeing what we do and are curious about who Jesus is or about your faith, totally come to a meeting. We would love to see you there and connect with you!”
