The Vallivue High School theater program’s next production is the musical, Brigadoon! It will open Wednesday, February 25 and play every night at 7:00pm until Saturday, February 28. Each ticket will be $10.
Brigadoon is a play about two men from New York who stumble upon a village in Scotland. The village only appears for one day every 100 years. One of the men falls in love with a woman living in that village.
When asked how the rehearsals were going, Mr. Stevenson said they were going “wonderfully.” He mentioned how they had different days where they practice dancing, singing, and putting songs together. The theater team has also been trying out new tech effects such as fog and digital backgrounds. This is the first year they will be allowed to use fog, and they are going to mix classic sets and digital aspects.
To get a role, students had to prepare a song to perform and have to read certain lines from the play for voice and acting, as well as a short dance section to see how good they are at following dance steps. The students who get the leads are the students that prepared the best for auditions.
The male leads of the play will be senior Shane Gomez as Tommy Allbright, senior Nik Plummer as Jeff Douglas, sophomore Ethan Palmer as Charlie Dalrymple, and senior Mason Palmer as Mr. Lundie. The female leads will be junior Maycee Kimball as Fiona McLaren, junior Jane Engstron as Jean McLaren, and senior Jocelyn Warr as Meg Brockie.
Mr. Stevenson said that he chose this musical was because it was a classic but not too common nowadays. He also chose this because the costumer, Kaye Dougal, wanted to make costumes for this play before she retires. It is also a chance for the students to expand their acting skills as the play is set in a small village in Scotland and some characters will have a Scottish accent.
