Mr. Stevenson Set to Play Hercule Poirot

“The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” will open on Friday, Oct. 13 featuring Vallivue High School’s very own Mr. Joseph Stevenson in the lead role. The story is one of Agatha Christie’s numerous murder mystery stories featuring Hercule Poirot, the best detective of his time.

Mr. Joseph Stevenson, VHS’s Theater Teacher (Rylie Wilson)

Poirot is a Belgian detective who can spot any little item out of place in a room. Being the excellent detective he is, he feels he must come out of retirement when a dear friend of his is murdered. Stevenson, the theater teacher at VHS, tried out for the play this August after learning his friend was directing it. While Stevenson doesn’t typically participate in plays outside of school during the school year, he felt he couldn’t pass up this opportunity. He commented that he usually gets home around 10 p.m. after a long day of teaching, producing “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” for the school play and then driving to Boise for his own rehearsal.

Starting from his senior year in high school, Stevenson has been in and helped produce so many plays that he had to guess he’d been in upwards of 20 plays, not including plays he’s produced for VHS. His long and successful history with being in plays makes him the perfect choice for the role of Poirot.

The screenplay was written by Doug Goheen and is one of many adaptations of “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.” Tickets are available now for $20 at Boise Little Theater’s Box Office, and showings will be held at the Boise Little Theater at 100 E Fort St., Boise.

About the Contributor
Rylie Wilson, Staff Writer
My name is Rylie Wilson, and I am a sophomore student at VHS. After spending my freshman year at Caldwell High School and feeling trapped there, I decided to do what I felt I should and not worry so much about what others thought of me. Part of this was being unafraid to speak with people and write about what I love, which I knew journalism would help me do. I love to write stories about music, movies, plays, and generally anything in the world of entertainment. My biggest goal this year is to feel at home with myself, my stories, my school, and the world around me.
