VHS Volleyball Gears Up for 2024 Season

After a tough season with a miraculous comeback in 2023 that led to a state tournament experience, the Falcons are hoping for a repeat performance.

As the 2024-2025 school year begins, our girl’s volleyball teams are getting ready for another crushing season.

When asked what she is most excited about in this upcoming season, junior Daniela Alfonso responded with, “This team. We’re very close because we’ve played together for years.” Alfonso also admitted that her goal for this season is for the team to make it to the State Championship.

As for the frosh team, sophomore Raegan Andrus tells us about her hopes for the 2024 season, “I want to get a better serve and work on consistency, but also be a better teammate.” Andrus says consistency can make or break a game, “it’s crucial in the game.”

All team athletes know that a team has to be connected, they have to play as a whole. Freshman Sofia Sutterfield is confident in her and her teammates’ bond; “Even in the short time we’ve been a team, I feel like we are all building personal connections through the sport. We’re all learning how to play with each other, respecting everyone on and off the court.”

Volleyball is an extremely precise sport and it takes a lot of work to correctly execute the skills. “I want to improve my setting and placements,” sophomore Jersey Royce says. She also commented on her team’s strengths, “We’re good at communicating and lifting each other up.”

Vallivue girls are ready for the new season, be sure to come support them at games. The Falcons celebrated their first win of the season last night against Ontario 4-1, and they will return to The Nest on Sept. 12 to face Bishop Kelly.

My name is Ella Chadwick and I’m a sophomore here at Vallivue High School. The first strong recollection I have of writing was when I was four years old. I wrote and illustrated a picture book and sold it to all my family and friends. At that moment, little four-year-old me, fell in love with writing. Ever since, I’ve filled notebooks and Google Docs with endless ideas and stories. I’ve written essays about random topics, novels, and books of poetry. But most of all, I took a special interest in journalism. This is my second year in journalism and I am excited to continue to grow my knowledge of the subject and get better at writing in general.

My name is Kinley Shanley and I'm a freshman at Vallivue High School. I was recommended the journalism class by two older members, but after being in the class I'm looking forward to exploring it. I've always been a writer and it's a huge part of who I am. Writing is a form of expression for myself and others. I think it's unique to today's youth and is a rarity, so it's very special to me. It's not uncommon for me to lack inspiration, so I think journalism will kickstart that and I'm excited to see my potential. I like the more controversial stories. I think they are so important to get out but they are sheltered too often. However, I'm aware it doesn't get too controversial in a high school newspaper. I do feel like I handle difficult stories well, especially if they affect me personally. This year I'm looking forward to learning about journalism as opposed to creative writing. I'm so passionate about writing and exploring a new side of it is very appealing.

I am Brooklyn Mower, a freshman in journalism. I joined the journalism class to be able to become a better writer and to reach people in ways that I couldn’t before. The stories that I like to work on are sports or the perspectives on different topics from other students or staff. I want to learn how to be better at making interesting stories and reach a larger audience to draw people into what I have to say. I also want to work on validity and hopefully telling as much truth as possible and still making each story as engaging as possible.
