Fall sports started last week, so that means it is officially football season! The varsity football team is hoping all of their hard work over the summer will pay off this season. The team has some new expectations and standards to meet because of the new coaching staff and overall new changes to the team.
Last fall, Vallivue hired former NFL player and Idaho native Shea McClellin. He played high school football in Marsing and college football at Boise State. He spent his NFL career with the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots, retiring in 2017.
Homer Ortiz, a Vallivue High staff member and assistant coach, shared his thoughts on this upcoming season. When asked for his opinion about the staff changes, Ortiz shared, “We have coaches that are well-educated in the game of football and coaching.” He believes that McClellin “…knows what it takes to win.” He further explained how the team has been working very hard over the summer with practices and lifting. He believes that this year is looking to be very positive, and expects many wins in our future.
“We’ve set a new standard. We want to build a program where we’re consistently in the playoffs and shooting for that state title,” Ortiz said.
The first varsity home game of the season is tomorrow, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. against Twin Falls. There are only four home games this season, so don’t miss your opportunity to watch some Falcon football!
