Brock Olson is a new teacher here at Vallivue High School. He grew up in Idaho and attended Wood River High School, where he participated in the basketball and golf teams. He has no desire to move away from Idaho. Though this is his first year teaching, he is not inexperienced. He spent four years working in the industry. He also went to Boise State University, where he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Design, Media, and Marketing. There, he also played a little bit of basketball and golf.
Mr. Olson has set his sights high, as he aims not only to teach but to help his students, “develop skills that will prepare them for the workplace and a variety of industries in the future.” He has really enjoyed the planning of the courses he is teaching and hopes it will give his students a “platform to grow.” He is ecstatic to be teaching and is very happy that he gets to help prepare his students for the workplace and the industry in general. He is also happy he gets to teach his favorite subject every day, and can’t wait to “share concepts that connect to students’ lives.” He sees this as a great opportunity to expand his own knowledge whilst helping his students continually build skills in business, photography, and design. He believes that you must come into the class with a mindset of “ a passion to learn more about business, design, marketing, or photography.” He believes that his class has many useful concepts and real-world applications that will ensure students are prepared for any opportunities the future will hold.
Mr. Olson’s classes separate themselves from the rest, as he says they can even offer the students skills that “could even help you start earning money right away.” In the class, he will teach you to make many different projects and market them, or build a portfolio. At the end, his plans for his students are to ensure they have “hands-on experience that can help them in a job, in college, or even in starting their own business.” He is planning on many fun projects that will combine creativity with technology. The students will be able to work on many different areas that will reflect their own interests. He wants them to leave the class with something they can be very proud of and could even use in the future.
Mr. Olson, in his free time, enjoys the outdoors. More specifically, he enjoys whitewater kayaking and rafting year-round. He even guided them professionally for several years. But anything outdoors, you can count him in on. However, he usually finds himself pretty busy with teaching, but he also has his own business, which keeps him very occupied.
